Ozone Coffee is the must stop spot for a weekend brunch when in Shoreditch. You could even make the detour if passing through Old Street if you wanted. It is just a ‘stone throw’ away from the station, which makes it the perfect meeting place… for those who can struggle out of bed with their weekend hangovers.
One of the first things you notice when visiting Ozone is the welcoming smell of coffee as you open the large doors. The roaster is on the basement level, just opposite the entrance. Ozone roast their own beans onsite. The ground floor consists of a large open space, with seating either by the large windows, the booths intimately tucked into the corners, and against the back wall, or the benches overlooking the kitchen. There is also the option to sit in the basement level, which has a large booth, a large boardroom style area (I’m not sure if it is open to customers, or is in fact the staff boardroom. I’ve never seen anyone use the space to be honest) or the long island bench running through the middle of the space. This is where I took place on this most recent visit.
Ozone Coffee is the egg lovers, brunch heaven. It is possible to get your eggs done in a variety of ways, poached, baked, scrambled, fried, you name it! I went with the Eggs Benedict with smoked ham, while my friend went with the Big Breakfast. I chickened out on the Big Breakfast, as it was probably more epic than my mood. If you aren’t in the mood for eggs they also offer a variety of other options. I previously had the French Toast, which was a nice sweet alternative.
Not only do Ozone make a mean breakfast, but they also pride themselves on their coffee. They do charge a premium price of £2.90 but you know you are going to get a quality coffee. If that isn’t your thing, or you’re not in the mood, they have a variety of juices, or you could order a Bloody Mary to really give your morning a kick.
When it comes to brunch, Ozone has been my default choice time after time. I have been here with friends a number of times, and it has always been an enjoyable experience.
The beans are roasted on site, and leave the venue with a welcoming smell of coffee. Don’t like your egg’s poached? No problem. You can order your eggs the way you like them. They also have non eggy options, for those who aren’t big on the egg experience.
It can be a bit dark in the warehouse space, so not the ideal summer hangout. The Island bench is a bit narrow for two people to sit opposite each other.
